Rishikesh is another hermitage town of Uttarakhand other than Haridwar by the Ganges which is the divine mother with many sages who are the divine messengers. The historical or would say legends begins from Haridwar and is further get stronger in Rishikesh.

In ancient times Rishikesh was the centre of meditation apart from Himalayan peaks for sages and the same tradition has been carried till today but with a difference or a change from caves to ashrams.

Rishikesh in 20th century not only famous for spirituals beliefs but also got famous for adventure seekers like bungee jumping, flying fox, white water rafting in Rishikesh etc.  The divine town shared by three districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The major part of Rishikesh which consist of residential colonies, local shops, offices lies in Dehradun district which is on the right bank of Ganges. Whereas Tapovan and Muni-Ki-Reti which has many hotels, lodges, religious institutions and ashrams comes under Tehri District while on the other hand left bank of Ganges in Rishikesh town come under Pauri District. Triveni Ghat, Parmarth Niketan, Gita Bhawan few to name are located here. And the famous suspension bridge known as Laxman and Ram Jhula which is completed in 1986 connect these areas.

People travel to Rishikesh from all over the world for mental peace and amateur seekers. It has plenty of ashrams and dharamshala’s with trusted saints and yoga teachers. Kalikamli Wale who has constructed many dharamshala’s on the Yatra routes in early days when travelling is difficult has their there headquarter based out of Rishikesh.

Rishikesh is known for the centre of meditation since ancient times, now the ancient caves are converted into modern ashrams and dharamshala’s however the purpose of operating these has not been changed which is Moksha.

Internationally famed Divine Life Society also has it’s headquarter in Rishikesh under the name of Swami Shivananda Ashram founded late back in 1939 and on the other hand Famous Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Meditation known for 84 caves which is constructed by modern technology providing the best architectural example. This is one of the best places to visit in Uttarakhand like Nainital, Corbett, Mussoorie, Himalayas etc.

There are many places of interest in Rishikesh which are Famous Ghats like Triveni Ghat for evening its evening Aarti, its similar to the Aarti offered at Haridwar at Har Ki Pauri, Raghunath Temple which is situated near Triveni Ghat is dedicated to Lord Ram, Bharat Mata Temple located in the centre of Rishikesh is dedicated to Bharat means India, The Famous Neelkanth Mahadev Temple of Lord Shiva which is some 30 Kms from city centre and located on the top of Swarg Ashram hill, The International Society for Krishna Consciousness also known as ISKON and also people calls it Hare Rama Hare Krishna draws large crown every day.

Rishikesh is a vegetarian city by law, as well as an alcohol-free city. It has also banned use of plastics bags by shopkeepers and vendors.
